The best protection is constant vigilance when searching for opportunities. It is perfectly normal for a potential employer or recruiter within the hiring process to ask you for information about your education, training and experience pertaining to a particular position but never provide your personal proprietary information until you are an official employee – offer signed off by everyone required. HR will tell you when they need payroll information to pay you. There will never be a time an organization will ask for your visa card.
