What is considered appropriate when it comes to professional communication in the business world?

One of the most important lessons I learned many years ago, is to never be lazy when it comes to communicating and to never take shortcuts. As the communication scale tips from the heavier weight on face 2 face and the telephone side to today as more people rely first on email, text, SMS, as the norm, it is important we understand the rules of the new road.
